sUAS Drone Pilot Program

This training program prepares students to safely and effectively operate small unmanned aircraft systems (sUAS) in utility and wire environments. The course combines FAA Part 107 exam preparation with hands-on drone operation, airspace management, weather interpretation, safety procedures, and utility inspection fundamentals. Upon successful completion, participants receive a certificate of completion and will have their FAA Part 107 exam scheduled with an approved third-party testing center.

Description

sUAS Drone Pilot Program

The sUAS Drone Pilot Program is designed to provide participants with the knowledge and practical skills needed to safely operate drones in utility and infrastructure environments. Through a combination of classroom instruction and field application, students learn the fundamentals of unmanned aircraft operations while preparing for the FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certification exam.

Topics include FAA regulations, airspace classification, aviation weather, airport operations, drone performance and loading considerations, emergency procedures, maintenance and inspection requirements, and crew resource management. Students will also develop the ability to read aeronautical charts, interpret weather reports, assess operational risks, and understand best practices for drone use in utility inspections.

Hands-on flight training allows participants to practice proper pre-flight procedures, takeoff and landing techniques, obstacle course navigation, and safe drone operation. Multiple practice exams are administered throughout the course to help students prepare for the FAA Part 107 knowledge test.

Upon successful completion of the program, students will receive a certificate of completion and will have their FAA Part 107 exam scheduled with an FAA-approved testing center.

Key Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand FAA rules, regulations, and airspace classifications.
  • Interpret aviation weather data and evaluate weather-related flight risks.
  • Apply safe drone operating procedures in utility environments.
  • Understand aircraft loading, performance, and maintenance requirements.
  • Execute appropriate emergency procedures and risk management practices.
  • Prepare for and obtain the FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate.
